The Leadership Spotlight Shines On: LaVerne Wright

1. Where were you born and raised; current city; family hobbies; past business highlights?
I was born and raised in a Caribbean family, 1st generation Jamaican American, instilled with values of hard work and resilience. I currently live in Chicago, balancing my career, business, and passion for empowering others.

I have a 24-year-old son and two Bichon Frise–Shih Tzu mixes. My hobbies include traveling, coaching, and connecting schools and businesses with opportunities.

Professionally, I transitioned from a 29-year career in education to School Support Specialist for ISBE, coaching principals in Chicago. I also serve as Program Manager for Teachers Supporting Teachers (TST) and on the advisory board for The Support Group.

As a Director with PlanNet Marketing, I’ve built a team of 100+, achieved national recognition, and established my LLC, Arts and Empowerment Consulting, to create access and opportunity through coaching and partnerships.

2. How have you grown or personally developed since joining PlanNet?
PlanNet has shifted my mindset about financial freedom and leadership. I’ve gained confidence, resilience, and the ability to mentor others while balancing business, career, and personal fulfillment.

3. What drives you; what motivates you?
Legacy. As a first-generation Caribbean, the first to earn a doctorate degree. I’m committed to building generational wealth and creating opportunities for my family and community. I’m also passionate about empowering educators and entrepreneurs to reach their full potential.

4. Who would you consider a role model and why?
I admire those who break barriers, uplift others, and build lasting legacies—from educators to entrepreneurs. My parents’ grit and sacrifice laid the foundation for my journey, and I was fortunate to have educators who believed in me and supported my growth. As a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha, I am deeply inspired by my sorority and the powerful women within it, who lead with purpose, serve with excellence, and uplift communities. I strive to embody that same spirit in my own leadership and service.

5. The three words that describe me best are:
• Connector – I link people to opportunities.
• Empowered – I use my journey to uplift others.
• Visionary – I plan for long-term success.

6. If you had some sound advice to give to anyone what would‌ it be?
Embrace the journey. Success is about growth, impact, and resilience. Bet on yourself, stay consistent, and protect your peace. Your energy is your greatest asset.

7. What does your life look like five years from now?
Retired, living in a warm climate, financially free, and expanding my impact. My 501(c)(3) will be thriving, supporting educators and business leaders. I’ll continue traveling, coaching, investing in real estate, and building generational wealth – fully living life on my terms.
