The Leadership Spotlight Shines On: Sarah Gooding

1. Where were you born and raised; current city; family hobbies; past business highlights.
I'm from Birmingham, UK originally, but grew up living all over the country due to my Mum's job.

I now live in Worcestershire with my partner and our 3-legged cat, but I am a very proud Auntie and travel regularly to the US to visit my brother's family.

In my free time I'm a volunteer dog walker for a local organisation, and I am fundraising throughout 2026 for a charity that funds children's trips to Orlando. I love to travel, go to the theatre, and create social media content of my visits to Disney theme parks.

Outside of PlanNet Marketing, I am the Head of Sales & Marketing for a philanthropic tech firm, and previously ran small-sided football leagues before heading up supporter experience at professional football clubs.

2. How have you grown or personally developed since joining PlanNet?
Despite working in leadership positions for a number of years, PlanNet is the first organisation that has actually trained me how to do so!

Working with different people, sharing ideas and supporting others has taught me how to speak more clearly, listen better and lead with more confidence. I’ve learned that good leadership starts with good communication, especially when your priority is helping other people succeed.

I’ve also become far more organised and better at managing my time! Juggling responsibilities and staying consistent alongside a demanding career has helped me plan my days properly, prioritise what matters and stay focused.

Most of all, PlanNet has sparked a real interest in self-development that I never had before. I’m much more aware of my weaknesses and the skills I have to help others, and I'm regularly pushed outside of my comfort zone so I can be a better example and support to those around me.

Overall, it’s been more than just a business opportunity – it’s played a big part in helping me grow as a person and as a leader, with the main focus always being to help others grow, too.

3. What drives you; what motivates you?
On day one, my motivation was travel. On day 700-and-something, my motivation is freedom - freedom to see my family across the ocean whenever I like, freedom to travel without annual leave restrictions, freedom to schedule my days as I please, and freedom to experience the things I never thought possible when I was growing up: home ownership, long-stay travel, choices.

4. Who would you consider a role model and why?
Sara Davies is a shining example of how you don't have to come from privilege to create opportunities for yourself. She’s proud of where she comes from and hasn’t felt the need to change her personality to fit the public spotlight, which I really admire. Despite her success, she still comes across as grounded, approachable and true to herself.

5. The three words that describe me best are:
Open-minded , resourceful , and optimistic.

6. If you had some sound advice to give to anyone what would‌ it be?
Listen more than you talk, and believe people when they show you who they are.

I realised early in my PlanNet journey that I was trying to make people fit a box of what I thought they should want from life - but when you listen to people's dreams and reasonings for joining our business, and ask more questions, you learn how to adapt your coaching to fit the person.

7. What does your life look like five years from now?
I am happy, in control of my own time, and my life is full of the things I enjoy. I'm a hands-on Auntie because the barriers to spending time with my nephew have been demolished through the business I've built. I've helped 1000+ women who previously had nobody believe in them, to believe in themselves and achieve the dreams that make them happy. I've raised substantial money for the charities I support to fund experiences for others.
