The Leadership Spotlight Shines On: Three-Star Director Leah Lockett

1. Where were you born and raised; current city; family hobbies; past business highlights.
I was born and raised in Manchester in England, and I currently live around an hour away from my hometown in a lovely rural area about 15 minutes drive from the beach – where I love to walk my dogs! I have a younger sister who is my best friend in the world and has actually just joined the business (so watch out for another Lockett coming through the Blog and board)! Our favourite thing to do is travel together and try out all of the new foods the countries we visit have to offer. I have just booked for us to explore Japan for 10 days in April which we are both very excited about!

Past business highlights – too many to pick out. I think just joining PlanNet three years ago was the best business decision I have ever made as I have been obsessed with everything about the model, the people I get to work with and help and the whole journey from the minute I said yes. The best part about it all for me is seeing my team having the success I have had, hearing how they have sacked their boss and getting to spend more time the way they would like to or that they have brought in extra cash to their homes with this model and our leadership – that’s what really sets my soul on fire.

2. How have you grown or personally developed since joining PlanNet?
My whole growth journey from the moment I joined has been astronomical, to the point I had to leave some people (that had been in my life for a long time prior) behind when I set off on this upward trajectory of bettering myself so that I could become better and lead better in the process. Unfortunately, when we leave school or higher education we can tend to stop learning and working on our own personal development. The best thing about this industry is that this doesn’t happen here, you are surrounded by supportive people who want to do more, be more and earn more! Personal development is essential for levelling up in all areas of your life and to be involved in an industry where this is encouraged is something I am truly grateful for. At the moment, I am reading The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell (which was a wonderful recommendation from Mr. Donald Bradley).

3. What drives you; what motivates you?
I get asked this a lot and I always have to reply with the same thing: not every day will you be motivated, but you can always be disciplined! Learning to become disciplined in business and all areas is what will separate your results from most. Motivation can be fleeting and cause you to skip the things you need to do to get to the place you are trying to be; discipline will see you through every time.

What drives me? I'm massively competitive, so I always have some kind of competition going on in my brain, whether it's with myself or someone else. This is what keeps me driven, there is always a next level I can take it to – so how can I stop doing what I am doing!

4. Who would you consider a role model and why?
I really love the story of Whitney Wolfe Herd – the now billionaire founder of Bumble! The story behind her success actually started out at at a competitor app ‘Tinder' where she was the brains behind many of the ideas behind the app, including the name and logo! After facing a lot of sexism, adversity and harassment whilst co-founding Tinder, she left the app and went on to set up Bumble on her own terms, which would go on to be valued for over one billion! Whitney's response to her journey in a recent interview was this: "Never take no for an answer, believe in yourselves, and turn your pain into purpose” and I think all three of these things reign true in all of our business journeys.

5. The three words that describe me best are:
Relentless, disciplined & passionate.

6. If you had some sound advice to give to anyone what would‌ it be?
Become obsessed with the process instead of the end game!! Our generation has become obsessed with a quick win and not doing the work to even get there. If you learn to fall in love with the process, when you have finally completed your goal, you won’t look back and just be able to say you have accomplished the end result but rather you will look back and be able to acknowledge that you have experienced and overcome challenges and learned from them in order to better set you up for whatever comes at you in the next stage of growth!

7. What does your life look like five years from now?
I will have retired my family, made sure they are debt-free and will get to show them as much of the world as I have seen!
